THE FORMIDABLE CIRCLING AND SHOOTING TECHNIQUES OF THE SPEAR

The circling and the shooting techniques are often used together
The spear shoot is considered by many kungfu practitioners as the most formidable weapon attack because it is technically the most difficult to defend. As the spear is light and long, it is easy for the spearman to pull back the spear after each shoot, thus making it difficult for the opponent to dodge or to move in to counter-attack.
The spear shoot is enhanced by the circling technique. Even if an opponent successfully defects a spear shoot and moves in to counter-attack, the spearman can negate the opponent's moves by circling the spear round the opponent's weapon. The circling may be clockwise or antic-clockwise. The circling and shooting are often used together, making the combined movement a highly effective way for both attack and defence.

The circling technique is now combined with the shoot technique. These two techniques are crucial for using the spear. Practicing these two techniques well right at the start of your spear training, will provide you with a good foundation in using a spear.

Here is a crucial movement of the spear, which consists of circling and then shooting out the spear. Do you know why the spear is not merely shot out? Why is the circling used?

These few patterns at the start of the set are amongst the most important in the set. They are “Traveling Dragon Rolls Water”, “Green Dragon Rolls Heaven” and “Green Dragon Shoots Pearl”, implementing the techniques of anti-clockwise circling, clockwise circling and shooting the spear.

After circling and shooting in front, turn around to circle and shoot the spear towards the back. The shooting technique while turning around, called “Return Horse Shoot Spear”, is a deadly spear technique.

After circling and shooting the spear towards the back three times, turn around and shoot the spear to the front. The class practices these crucial techniques of the spear. If you wish to be proficient with your spear, you should spend some time perfecting these techniques.

The spear shoot can be performed in various stances. The spear is shot in the Bow-Arrow Stance, the Unicorn Stance and the Stolen Stance. The spear shoot must be fast and smooth.

The spear is shot to different directions. This is a crucial and deadly technique of the spear. The class practices this technique many times in different directions using different stances.
