COVERING THE FOUR CORNERS AGAINST ALL ATTACKS
General Wavs Flag
There are two main ways to classify weapon attacks — coming from four directions, and coming at three levels.
From the four directions, weapon attacks may come from the top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right. From the three levels, weapon attacks may aimed at your top, middle or bottom.
Covering the four corners will enable you to handle all types of weapon attacks regardless of whether the attacks come from any of the four directions or three levels. These four corners are covered by the four techniques of “yew”, “thiew”, “sou” and “phut”, which are “wave”, “flick”, “sweep” and “brush”. If you are holding your spear with your left hand in front, these techniques move an opponent's weapon to the top right, top left, bottom right and bottom left respectively.
A picture-series and a video series of the set can be found here and here respectively.

Using the Front Hand as Pivot
Here are the correct way and the incorrect way of performing the covering and the flicking movements. In the correct way you use your front hand as a pivot, whereas in the incorrect way you use your whole arms and body. In the correct way you use minimum effort and achieve maximum result. You need not use much strength to meet an opponent's weapon because you cover or flick it away, and not shove it away strenuously.
Elegant Movement and Agile Control
The elegant, correct way and the clumsy, incorrect way of using a spear are shown in more details. If you use the correct way, you need less effort and your movements are agile, giving you good control of the spear. If you use the incorrect way, you need much strength and your movements are restricted, with your body being controlled by the spear.
Correct Flicking Movement in Detail
The correct of flicking the spear is shown in detail. The front hand acts as a pivot. The main movement is controlled by the back hand. You use little effort to achieve much result. The reverse applies in the wrong movement where you need much effort and strength but with less effect.
Correct Sweeping Movement in Detail
The correct way to sweep is shown in detail. When performed correctly, little effort produces much result. When performed incorrectly, much strength and effort are needed, and you become tired easily. Notice that in the incorrect movement, you are also more exposed.
Correct Covering Movement in Detail
The correct way to cover an opponent's weapon is shown in detail. In the incorrect way, you use big body and hand movements, and expose yourself to an opponent's attack. In the correct way, you need less effort and movement, yet have better control and are less exposed.
External Harmonies of Feet, Body and Hands
The correct way to cover all the four corners of defence against all attacks is shown. The elegant, correct movements are achieved by the three external harmonies of feet, body and hands. If they are out of harmonies, the movements would he clumsy and incorrect.
