One-finger Shooting Zen

One-finger Shooting Zen

Question 1

I have started training 5 minutes of One Finger Shooting Zen and then enjoying Lohan Carrying Water for as long as I like.

— Sifu Chris Didyk, Shaolin Wahnam St Pete, Florida, USA

Answer

"One-Finger Shooting Zen" is marvellous.

If you practice "Lohan Carrying Water" after "One-Finger Shooting Zen", you can carry on as long as you like.

You can try with other aspects of kungfu training.

Question 2

I train Plum Flower Sabre, Ho Family Flowing Water Staff, 16 basic shaolin combat sequences, 12 basic taijiquan combat sequences, Cross Roads at Four Gates, and Wudang Three Harmony.

Answer

"Ho Family Flowing Water Staff", 16 Basic Shaolin combat sequences, 12 Basic Taijiquan combat sequences, "Cross Roads at Four Gates" and "Wudang Three Harmony" are fantastic. They are my favourite sets.

The combat sequences are wonderful. I remember that when I started to teach, some Shaolin members suggested that I called the combat sequences "Advanced Kungfu", but I told them they were our basics.

The "Wudang Three Harmony" was composed by me. I reckoned that Sun Lu Tang was known as "Thirteen Guards" in his young days for no reasons. He must have fought very well.

Even his daughter, Sun Jian Yun, did not receive his secrets. There are many secrets in the set, and I use it often.

Question 4

I have also learned the "Cotton Palm" set after I learned the "Crushing Fist". It is simply astounding that such a seemingly simple set can generate such incredibly flowing force.

The "Cotton Palm" set was composed by me following the principles of "Cotton Palm" and the Wudang sets. According to the principles, the energy in the palms should be flowing, the palms should be gentle and red in colour.

Question 7

"Hao yun qi" has continued very well.

Answer

"Hao yun qi" is a useful phrase. Do you know that it comes from chi kung? It means "good circulation of chi" which signifies "good luck". If you practice your chi kung, you will have good luck.

Many terms come from chi kung, like "fa bei qi" and "kai xin", which are "express spine energy" and "open heart". If you express your spine energy, you show your tantrum. If you open your heart, you are happy.

Question 8

Sigung Ho's combat application skills and his ability to pass on those combat skills to his students were one of the first things that caught my attention when first reading about your time training in his school.

Answer

Sigung Ho was a monkey specialist. His specialty was using "Planting Willow in Front of Camp" to defeat a Muay Thai fighter when he used continuous knee strikes.

A Muay Thai fighter usually uses knee strikes. That is his specialty, and "Planting Willow in Front of Camp" defeats him. It is interesting that most people practice their outward forms.
