THE STREAM-CHARACTER STANCE OF BAGUAZHANG
A special stance in Baguazhang is the Stream-Character Stance. It is so-called because it resembles the Chinese character "stream". The hands are held in open palms as shown in the video.
This stance is so popular in Baguazhang that it is sometimes called the Bagua Stance. It is similar to the Triangle Stance. In Xingyiquan, it is called "Three-Body Poise".
The secret of stance training, including the Stream-Character Stance, is to be relaxed. The more relaxed a student is, the more internal force and mental clarity he will develop from the stance training.
Start with a comfortable time of relaxation. Many students may not last for 3 minutes when they start. Gradually progress so that you can stand at the Stream-Character Stance for 15 minutes or more on both sides.
You need to practice for at least 3 months to practice your Stream-Character Stance. During these 3 months you can practice other aspects of Baguazhang.
