SAP YE THIAK OR TWELVE KICKS
This is the second of three chi sau sets Grandmaster Wong has composed to enable course participants learn fundamental chi sau techniques more effectively. It is called "Sap Ye Theak" or "Twelve Kicks", because each practitioner of the chi sau set makes 12 kicking attacks. They are the left and the right mode of "Side Thrust Kick", "Front Thrust Kick", "Side Kick", "High Kick", "Whirlwind Kick" and "Low Sweeping Kick".
Except for the Side and Front Thrust Kicks, these kicks are not often used in traditional Wing Choon Kungfu. This is probably because as a lady wearing skirt, Yim Wing Choon did not find them useful and therefore did not include them in her regular practice. However, they are included here to enable course participants to practice the counters against opponents who may use them.
The "Cockerel Kick", which is a popular Wing Choon kick and is found in the set, is not counted as one of the twelve kicks. Here, the "Cockerel Kick" is used by the responder, whereas the twelve kicks are used by the initiator. (Of course the "Cockerel Kick" can also be used for attack.) The Knee Jab is not found here, but found in the third set.
